I Stopped Buying Books, Sort Of

Kobo

AlhamduLILLAH, my daughter read 100 chapter books last years so I rewarded her with a Kobo. I was keen on getting a Kindle but they seem to release books for Canadians a bit later sometimes and I also like being able to purchase ePub books that I can open on any other device. We saved our pennies and when it came time to purchase, the older model was on clearance so I purchased that for her and got myself one as well. She has read 23 books so far this year, mashaALLAH. The only thing that slows her down is charging it (about once every two weeks?).

When she's done, she has to give an oral summary to me or her dad and then we add it to the database on Shelfari. Her enthusiasm reminds me of my avid reading as a child but I was nowhere near as young as she is now. One good thing about the ereader is being able to reward her with a book or her grandmother can send her gift cards (she's always fretting about what to get her) and, you can download library books onto it. That is worth it for us because we have a problem keeping up with them sometimes.

Still, there is benefit in physical books; sometimes, you have to feel and see the pictures to appreciate the story.

Buying Physical Books Too

Asalaamu Alaikum

It takes two weeks to charge it? You're kidding right? I never knew you could download library books. Do the pictures show up too or just the words? Is there a time limit?

Wa alaikum as salaam, no, Sister, every two weeks I charge it for about an hour. I think I just worded it funny.

Oh, and the pictures show up too :)

She reads on it night and day for hours sometimes (she still sneaks to read like she always did, lol)
