MashaALLAH! She's done it!

It's nice to be inspired/challenged by my children. They are young but they illustrate just how much time there is in a day and how much can be accomplished. They just sit down and do the work. Don't get me wrong, they know how to goof off and procrastinate, but sometimes they are so much better at focusing on their work.

My six year old has completed her task of reading 50 books in a year, mashaALLAH and she's done it in 11 months. Some of these books were easy to read and some were way beyond her scope - like Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, (or so I thought).  I'm thinking of getting her an ereader as her prize because as soon as she read the 50th book, she picked up an old favorite and started reading it again.

I started my own 50 books in a year back in January and I'm almost halfway through. This challenge is no joke! I've hit a brick wall and my motivation has faltered a bit. Still, I'm trying to regain my composure and get ahead of schedule (I'm on books 19, 20 and 21) but I'm sharing my time with other endeavors (trying to get in some exercise and Arabic/Islamic studies, homeschool planning, Ramadan planning - eek!).

What are some ways that you challenge yourselves?

Assalamualaykum,
MaashAllah, well done to your daughter.
Did you make your own 50 booklist in advance, or are you adding titles as you come across them through the year?

Masha'Allah! =)

It's indeed a rewarding feeling to know the achievement of the children, though they are young! =D

JazakAllah Khair for all your sharing!

You've motivated me to do home education in future, insha'Allah! =)

W'salam,

Asalaamu Alaikum

I'd be interested to know which books you've read so far. Any from my blog book club? lol.

As salaam alaikum,

Congrats on her meeting her goal.

Personally, I know I put way too much pressure on myself as a mother and a homeschooler.

There are books that I desire to read for my own knowledge first and then for the children, but I wouldn't put a quanity on the amount that I am aiming to read. I think that would be too overwhelming for me. I feel grateful to just make it through one book at a time, alhamdulillah.

As salaamu 'alaikum Sisters,

May ALLAH make things easy for you and your family, (AMEEN).

Candace - JazakILLAH Khairin for your kindness, it means a lot :)

Umm Rashid, we visited the thrift store and I sifted through the hundreds and hundreds of books on the shelves. There was no rhyme or reason to the method last year. InshaALLAH, this year I would like to organize and try to choose some themes to go along with her school reading and also some of C's picks from her book club. I added her button to the top of the blog on the right.

Khadijah C. JazakILLAH Khairin Ukhti, you are really sweet and InshaALLAH you will make a fine home educator and be a great benefit to our Ummah, AMEEN.

C - we haven't started any of the books from your club yet but I do have them added to our list. I guess the point was to read it as you're reading it though, lol. We are late to the game, my friend. ;)

Umm Tafari, this was definitely the first time that I've challenged myself to complete such a large task. I've also taken on some fitness challenges and they've already paid off. I do find that I get burnt out from time to time so I ease off and take a break. I thought it would be overwhelming but it has turned out to be great fun.

Take care everyone,
wa salaam,
Nakia

Asalam Alekum

may Allah keep her motivation alive and make your children the best of Muslims.

Really this is such a big accomplishment, because I have a bookshelf full that needs to be read.

Wa 'alaikum as salaam Stranded,

AMEEN.

I have a shelf full as well and I am tired of looking at them. I read somewhere that if you read 40 pages a day, you can finish a book a week. For a while, I was doing so well... now I think I'm reading 20 pages.
