Spelling

I go to the thrift shop once in a while and look for things like old Scrabble games so that we can use the letter tiles.

If I really need to focus on my oldest for a few minutes, I have my son make words with the letter tiles. It usually takes him a while to sort through the pile of letters to find the right one so it's a good way to keep him busy, yet productive.

Assalamu 'alaykum

I know how useful Scrabble letter tiles can be; my son loves making words with them when we are not playing the game. But I like your idea of using additional letters from old scrabble games.

By the way, I followed a link from
"Old Muslim Woman in the Shoe" and ended up here. MashaAllah, I can feel your enthusiasm and dedication to homeschooling your children just from a few posts that I have read. May Allah reward you for sharing your ideas and resources.

Ma'salaama.

Wa 'alaikum as salaam Saara,

JazakILLAH Khairin for stopping by :)

May ALLAH make things easy for you and your family AMEEN.

I try to make things fun for them so they don't get bored. Sometimes it's so I don't get bored, lol.

Take care,

Assalamu'alaykum again:

I know what you mean by "getting bored". But we have so much joy and happiness when we see our children learning through play. My son has learnt so much in this way. And through reading.

We have so many books, AlhamduLillah, and read everyday. He knows how to read now without me having to teach him. MashaAllah.

With all these books, many of them Islamic or for Muslim children, I decided to start a blog for book reviews and the importance of reading. I focus on books for Muslim children and young adults.

I would be happy if you stop by inshaAllah. The blog is Guide to Muslim Children's Books and Media -http://muslimkidsbooks.wordpress.com/

Masalaama.

Wa 'alaikum as salaam, Sis.

JazakILLAH Khairin for the link, InshaALLAH I will check it out - I would love to be able to add more books for my daughter - especially since she's at the level of reading where inappropriate behaviors start creeping in (kissing, talking about boys, etc.). She is far advanced in her reading and I didn't think about these dangers at first but now the book search is becoming tough.

Take care,
wa salaam,
Nakia
