Free Somali Folktales

I haven't read through all of the folktales but they look interesting. The English translation is first followed by the Somali version. Apparently, Somali oral tradition is rich with stories and these are just a few.

Are you Somali? I learned Somali over a few years and love the folktales. Thanks for providing the link!

No, I'm not Somali; I'm a Black American but I figured having resources from a multitude of Muslim backgrounds can never be a bad thing!

Is Somali harder than/similar to Arabic?

Take care,
Nakia

I think that's awesome that you're exposing your kids to that culture.
Somali has a lot of vocab that comes from Arabic, but the grammar is completely unrelated. For me, I would say that Somali is harder, but for some reason I like it better.

Hmmm, I've read that Swahili is like that too (has Arabic mixed in). My husband's side of the family speak Urdu which I think is Arabic, Hindi and Farsi mixed together. Little by little it's becoming clearer to me.
