Masha'Allah Sister! You've done an amazing job with setting up this blog. It's an inspiration for me. Something I look forward to doing when I start schooling Ibraheem (he's only 7 months), Insha'Allah. Originally from Canada (Toronto), we're living in Saudi; my hubby is working here. I have started Ibraheem on some Montessori activities to better develop is gross and fine motor skills. I would welcome any ideas you have for a child of his age.

Also, any tips on how I can make my blog as dynamic as yours, will be welcome. I am blogging my experiences at 'ummheemu.blogspot.com', I've linked your blog in there :D! I look forward to hearing from you, Insha'Allah. May Allah reward you and bless your family (Ameen). May He grant you good health so you can continue to be an inspiration, Insha'Allah!

Take Care,

Wa 'alaikum as salaam Sister Rabiah.

JazakILLAH Khairin for adding me to your blog - I've added you here as well.

This is an ever-changing blog, much like my mind, lol. Ask any reader who tolerates me, I change it from time to time :)

I tend to look around and see what styles inspire me and what works best for this blog (there is always some information or blog that I need to squeeze in) and I look around for free graphics, glitters, buttons, etc. I was thinking about letting a professional get their hands on it but then I procrastinated and still haven't gotten to it.

I'll drop you a line on your blog to give some ideas about where to go for activities for youngsters, InshaALLAH. There are plenty of talented sisters out there!

Take care,

I just have a couple of question though, how do you combine Islamic studies into regular school studies? What age did u start to home school your children I have a three year who i want to start but she has learning disability as well as health problem. She very smart and already pick up the Arabic Alphabet she can say them all the way up to noon. But cant say the English Mashallah everyone keep saying. Sorry I'm babbling . But that all i wanted to ask, I cant really ask anyone around since there so few muslim and none are homeschooling to my knowledge

Wa 'alaikum as salaam,

May ALLAH make things easy for you and your family (AMEEN).

JazakILLAH Khairin for your kindness.

It's best to start the homeschool day with Islamic Studies. Even if it's just learning a surah or talking about the Seerah of the Prophet (pbuh). You can go over the Arabic alphabet daily, counting in Arabic, days of the week, etc. Just take your time, InshaALLAH. You can teach them to name things around the home in Arabic, talk about the wives of the Prophet (SAW). There are so many things! Your daughter is three so give her time. I also have a three year old and I haven't started anything formal with her. She has picked up on a lot from her older siblings but I will start with her in August, InshaALLAH. Learning to write the alphabet and spell her name, etc. It's good that she knows the Arabic alphabet - just keep going. If she knows all the way to noon she's doing great!

We are also combining Islamic Studies with history and geography and I am adding it to science as well. You can talk about Ibn Batutta and about the accomplishments of Muslims in the sciences, etc. There are so many things. Just think, for everything a child learns in public school, there is the better Islamic alternative.

Take care,
wa salaam,

Assalamu Alaikum Sister.
I currently am expecting my first child Insha'Allah, and my husband and I have been discussing homeschooling. We have many issues with the current education system in Canada and believe that it would be beneficial for our daughter to be home schooled by myself, rather than sending her to a school.
I recently became Muslim and I wish that there were Islamic schools near us that we could send her to, but at this time they are all quite far and I would not feel as though she would reach her full potential in a public school. I would love to hear your opinion on the matter, and if you have any resources that could help me to understand the legal issues behind homeschooling I would greatly appreciate it.
Your blog is great, and The resources you have on it are very helpful, there is just so much to go through that I find myself getting lost.
Insha'Allah I will speak with you soon, take care Sister.

Wa 'alaikum as salaam Sister,

First of all, Mabrook and may ALLAH make things easy for you and your family (AMEEN). InshaALLAH you have an easy labor.

It would be best if you would find out your province laws and regulations concerning homeschooling. In Ontario, there's virtually no restriction on what a parent must do. Other provinces do vary. I have been told that other provinces also provide compensation to homeschooling parents, so if you're outside ON, definitely check that out - supplies and books!

If you are in Ontario, go to the website of the Ontario Federation of Teaching Parents. They have a thorough overview of homeschooling in Ontario and they also provide certain discounts around town through their membership.

It's good that you have started researching now. That way, you and your husband can decide what is best before you get started and you can have a general idea of what you would like to do.

The biggest piece of advice that I can give is make your homeschool work for you. I myself have fallen into the trap of trying to keep up with everyone else when their style and training may differ drastically from mine. Be yourself. And don't be afraid to change what doesn't work. Oh, and have fun!

Hope that this helps,
take care,
wa salaam,
